Frequently Asked Questions

A Shared Hosting service is an online environment with all the necessary functions ready to host your website, email and databases. The environment is based on a server that is shared by other isolated clients with similar hosting plans. The limits of this environment are defined by the different hosting packages available in our client area.

This service is the cheapest and easiest way to get your project online, with a very wide range of compatible applications.

Functionalities in our shared hosting service include:

  • Unlimited Domains
  • FTP Access with Multi-Account Management
  • Email
  • Backup via CPanel and JetBackup
  • MySQL Databases
  • DNS Management
  • SSH/Terminal Access
  • ImunifyAV
  • Mod_security Management
  • Multiple PHP Versions Available on per Website Basis
  • JS/Python/Ruby Apps Suppocaveatsrt
  • Softaculous Application Management and WordPress Toolkit through CPanel are some of the main features.

Our shared hosting services are based on cPanel & WHM, which has been the industry's leading web hosting platform for over 20 years, providing a remarkably stable service with a very friendly interface.

Sure!

Our Shared Hosting service is compatible with WordPress and includes special tools to install and manage your platform. Two of these tools include: Softaculous WordPress Manager and the WordPress Toolkit developed by CPanel itself.

Our shared hosting accounts do not have any limits to the amount of domains that can be added into the account. Each domain can have its own website.

So you are able to add as many WordPress websites as you can according to the other limits of the account: database count limit, storage space available, and CPU/RAM to be used by these applications and their visitors.

We work only with MySQL Databases only in our shared hosting service.
This is a complex question, but usually you can use a few estimations:
  • How many visitors do you have;
  • What kind of application you are running as website (e.g. static HTML page, WordPress clean, WordPress with many plugins, Databases Only, Email service Only, etc.);
  • At what stage of development are you? (e.g. Your website starting live soon, it is in early stages of development/configuration etc.);
  • What content will you be presenting?
Our suggestion is : Look for the basic limits of each package, but start small and grow as you need. This recommendation is based on the fact that upgrading between accounts is easy and seamless so if you purchased a small package and need to upgrade it is very easy.

Any application compatible with the environment of the shared hosting servers.

We work with PHP, JS, Python and Ruby. Of course the exceptions are applications that violate our Acceptable usage Policies and Terms of Service such as malware and phishing platforms, for example.

Yes, with a few caveats:
  • A transfer can take up to 48h when all other conditions are met
  • The provider you are transferring from has to be using CPanel, and use the latest version - older versions are not compatible
  • Before the migration starts you must ensure that you purchase a Shared Hosting account from us that has higher limits, with at least 20% more storage space than your current account with the provider you are transferring from
  • It is also important to ensure that we have the PHP version you need and all the extensions your app needs. If you don't find this information in your CPanel account, feel free to contact our Support
  • Migrations only include transferring the CPanel account from the servers of your previous provider to our servers. Any toubleshooting is not included after the migration of the entire account
  • Transferring the CPanel account means complete and TOTAL migration of the entire account. We are not able to migrate only one or two websites or only emails, etc. This means that if you wish to only migrate a WordPress for example, this is not recommended

Green Hosting refers to the measures that hosting companies take to reduce their carbon footprint. FlokiNET, among others, limits the impact on the environment by using equipment and policies that are more environmentally friendly.

Products marked as green are mostly related to the source of electricity used. In Iceland all energy sources used are 100% clean, meaning that they do not harm the environment, especially the atmosphere, in any way.

Shared Hosting is very easy and straightforward to use, but it is also a specific service, with a more limited range of applications and server configurations/settings available.

An example of this is the Apache HTTP server. In CPanel you have many options such as configuring redirects (301), writing your own htaccess file and handlers, but you are not able to completely uninstall it if you wish to replace it with another HTTP server or make global changes.

A second example are MySQL databases. You are able to manage your own databases and the tables they contain, but you are not able to install another database such as PostgreSQL, Mongo DB, etc.

Of course there are technical limitations in these examples: Kernel management, network configurations, root access, etc. are also limited or unavailable.

It is easy to see that you share these resources (Apache, Mysql, SMTP server, etc.) with other users and any changes that may affect the neighbors are not possible and here we come to the advantages of having a VPS or a dedicated server, as in these environments you are able to control the Linux installation and the applications to be installed, the way they are configured and interact with each other - you are in full control of everything.

So a  VPS/Dedicated Server will allow you to:

  • install and control any application you need
  • configure it from the ground up
  • with full root access
  • kernel management
  • full network control
  • private IPv4
  • your own CPanel/WHM if you wish, the same way we control CPanel environments for our shared hosting accounts, but you are the root user.

With this in mind, it should be clear for you whether VPS/Dedicated Servers are the better option or not. If these advantages don't make much sense for you, the safer option is the Shared Hosting account, as the administration of a Linux server requires more from the user.

Yes!

Our shared hosting accounts come with a special section so you can generate your DNSSEC records, which then need to be added into the domain registrar. If you purchase the domain and shared hosting account from us, a simple request for this via ticket is required and our team will be happy to assist you with that setup.

FlokiNET only works with pre-paid services, so all services must be paid in advance.

No, we are very transparent when it comes to payment. Our intention is always to deliver an excellent service and not to set traps to get your funds.

So if you see a price in our shared hosting page, you will be charged that plus the payment processing fee (not all payment methods include a fee), these fees can be found in our payment gateways page.

There are no extra fees to be expected after your shared hosting account is running, unless you explicitly require a extra service.

It's very easy!

After accessing your CPanel account go cPanel >> Home >> Email >> Email Accounts >> click 'Create' and follow the steps:

  1. Enter a new email address in the Username text box
  2. Use the Domain menu to select the domain on which you want to create the email account
  3. Set a password
  4. Click create
  5. Done!

In a nutshell, we use the CPanel/WHM with Cloudlinux, which are built with the specific scope of creating isolated environments inside one phisical server thus sharing the resources between these environments, creating shared hosting accounts. These applications are configured in a certain way so it works for every isolated environment at the same time and allow each shared hosting account to use only the allowed resources from the chosen package.

Note that each shared hosting account/environment will be sharing the same base applications, it is not one application per client. To exemplify there is only one Apache instance running on our nodes and this one instance works for all shared hosting accounts and *not* one apache instance per shared hosting account.

Yes, Shared Hosting accounts are well isolated and provide a safe environment for your application.

Please note that the security of your website depends on many other factors. You must configure your environment to use the latest version of PHP, keep your applications up to date according to the 'Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures' (CVE) announced by the developing organization, and patch as recommended.

Keep in mind that our Shared Hosting accounts are not managed, meaning that FlokiNET does not take responsibility to monitor, maintain, develop, nor troubleshoot your website/application itself (ex: WordPress, Joomla, APIs, Blog App, Prestashop etc) - so you and your team need to keep your application secure on your end as well.

Transport Layer Security (TLS) Certificates are used to authenticate a server and enable an encrypted connection between any visitor and the server.

When you have a certificate, you can provide your customers with the ability to visit your site in a secure manner by encrypting all information and preventing data leakage.

This also applies to your own internal services: Email and FTP are also protected by the encryption and authentication provided by SSL Certificates.

On shared hosting, we offer Let's Encrypt certificates for all configured domains, at no extra cost.

For free SSL certificates to be issued, note that you must have DNS records set pointing to our server's IP, or your domain must be configured with our name servers. With automatic domain validation successful, the free SSL certificate will be issued - note that you may need to wait up to 24 hours for the Let's Encrypt certificate to be issued.

On the CPanel interface, access "SSL/TLS Status". There you will have more information about the current status and also have the option to "Run AutoSSL", which will check and attempt to replace and invalid certificates

Our principles are what sets us apart, and at the same time our hardware and support are our strong assets.

Our main mission is protecting your privacy and security, which includes your visitors as well.

We provide our services with the certainty that we will not do any kind of eavesdropping into your own or your visitors' data, nor share or analyze it in any way for our own or any third party's interest.

FlokiNET does not use any third party service providers for VPS / Shared Hosting/ Dedicated Servers / TeamSpeak. These services are fully owned and managed by FlokiNET only.

We also offer:

  • SSD NVMe disk drives
  • Enterprise HPE and Arista infrastructure
  • Support in multiple languages
  • Free DDoS-protection on Layer 3,4 and 7
  • Multiple payment methods, including Bitcoin
All accounts include:
  • Multiple PHP versions, configured per website
  • Free SSL Certificate issued via Let's Encrypt Certbot
  • SSH and Terminal Access
  • Mod Security
  • CPanel/WHM's Backup & JetBackup
  • Two-factor Auth via Google Authenticator
  • DNSSE
  • Unlimited number of E-mail accounts
  • Unlimited number of added domains and subdomain
  • 256bit AES Encrypted Storag

You have available two tools for backups: Jetbackup and Standard Backup by CPanel / WHM.

While Jetbackup is great for backup of certain features, and recovering only whats needed, the solution offered by CPanel is more general and usually is used for disaster recovery and easy remote backup.

Since shared hosting accounts can be used by a wide range of applications, we have created special shared hosting servers to serve the more specific needs of certain groups of customers.

Business hosting is focused on companies that want to share the IP with other companies and not with anyone, they come with more space and our resource limits there are higher than other shared hosting packages.

DDoS Shared Hosting as the name suggests, is intended for clients who expect DDoS attacks all the time. This service is configured to block more requests and is specially configured for the needs of these targeted customers.

Standard Shared Hosting accounts are recommended for the general public who are hosting a CMS platform, emails, blogs and are not a registered company or don't expect frequent DDoS attacks. These accounts work exceptionally well and you will have the same support and features as the other two.

If you need more information about these packages, please let us know!

Linux all the way. We work with specially modified Linux systems to ensure the best performance and security for the shared hosting environment.
There is no need to register a domain with us, you are free to have your domain registered anywhere and simply configure your nameservers and/or DNS to work with the shared hosting account. Usually our recommendation is that you use our nameservers for easier setup.

Upgrading is easy: you can click a few buttons and an invoice is generated. After the invoice payment is identified, the account is upgraded automatically.

When upgrading between packages or adding features, we will only charge you proportionally to the amount left in your billing cycle. We do our best to be fair and correct when it comes to the investment you are making.

For example, if you have a VPS in Iceland with a current recurring fee of 50 EUR, and you need to upgrade to a package with a recurring fee of 90 EUR, and your current billing cycle has 15 days left, we will not charge you for a full month for the upgrade, but proportionally, splitting the difference for the remaining amount: 15 days, creating an invoice for [(90-50)/30]*15 EUR.

No doubt!

We only work with physical locations, more specifically in the capitals of the listed countries: Helsinki in Finland, Bucharest in Romania, Reykjavík in Iceland, and Amsterdam in Netherlands.

Yes!

We work with CPanel/WHM, which comes with a beautiful and friendly control panel for all shared hosting packages.

Yes, SSH access is possible via SSH-keys only, and Terminal is available at the Control Panel.

Note that there are limits to the actions you can perform through SSH. Flokinet is the only one with root access, but SSH access is still very helpful.

As a responsible webhosting company FlokiNET does not allow in any case:
  1. Malicious Activities
    • Any activity related to spam (relays, sites, links, proxy)
    • Netscan/portscan activities
    • DDoS originations of any kind
    • Malware distribution, hacking attempts (e.g., SQL injection attacks, remote code execution)
    • Operating or participating in a botnet, doorway pages, or carding activities
    • Phishing, scam or impersonation platforms for stealing information/money (e.g., credit card, password scam sites, fake cryptocurrency exchanges)
    • Impersonation platforms (e.g., eBay, PayPal, or any other known institutions)
  2. Illegal and Harmful Content
    • Hosting or sharing child pornography
    • Selling pharmaceuticals without a license
    • Sharing or distributing materials related to terrorism
    • Doxxing: revealing or sharing personal and private information without consent (privacy violation)
  3. Server Abuse
    • Chia mining on shared hosted accounts, VPS or dedicated servers
